Project Description:

The Cross River and Croton Falls Pumping Stations direct water from the Croton Watershed to the Delaware Aqueduct to prevent drought condition in New York City when the Delaware watershed water level is low. Because the pumping station capacities are no longer sufficient to meet the increased demand of New York City and Westchester County, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection has decided to build a new pumping station in the Shaft 13 Building at Cross River, and a new pumping station within the vicinity of the existing pumping station at Croton Falls. The new Cross River Pumping Station will provide 60 MGD and the new Croton Falls Pumping Station will provide 180 MGD.

The overall scope of work includes the complete reconstruction of the facilities, a feasibility study and analysis of water quality, environmental impacts of the proposed action, and stormwater management in accordance with the New York Watershed Rules and Regulations and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) regulations. This major project involves multidiscipline services such as environmental, civil, structural, and electrical engineering, architectural, and environmental compliance and permitting.

Amay Associates, provides the following services to the Pirnie-Gannett JV:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling for the design of stormwater treatment facilities. Prepare Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) for the Croton Falls Pumping Station.
  • Prepare specifications for the step-by-step quality control of the storm water sedimentation and erosion control plan and Notice of Intent to obtain coverage under NYSDEC General Permit GP0-08-001 for Cross River Pumping Station.
  • Prepare and provide drawings and specifications for the quality control of implementation of erosion and sedimentation control during construction for Cross River and Croton Falls Pumping Stations.
