Amay engineers performed Value Engineering (VE) for the NYC Department of Environmental Protection half a billion dollar Gowanus Canal CSO Storage Facility. Performed the VE study for the Facility Planning and 30% design of the project, which was for the installation of an 8 MG and a 4 MG tank to control overflow from the Owls Head and Red Hook areas and accommodate a peak flow of 306 MGD. Some of the key recommendations were: install variable size pumps to handle low flow conditions; perform a computational fluid dynamics modeling for the tank; ad screens to the regulator to decrease building size; install continuously-cleaned screens, and install larger flushing gates in the first compartment.
